SSD & RAM Upgrades in Adelaide
Got a slow computer? The right upgrade can make it feel like new again — usually for a lot less than a replacement.
Common problems, explained
- SSD upgrades — by far the biggest speed boost
- More RAM for smoother multitasking
- Larger storage for photos and files
- Windows reinstall and clean setup
SSD upgrade vs buying a new laptop
If your laptop or desktop still uses a traditional spinning hard drive, replacing it with an SSD usually makes the biggest difference you'll notice — faster start-up, programs that open quickly and less waiting around. For a computer that's otherwise in good shape, that can be far better value than buying new. If it already has an SSD and is still slow, the cause is likely elsewhere. Our SSD upgrade or new laptop guide goes into more detail.
How much RAM is enough?
As a general guide, 8GB is fine for basic use like email, browsing and documents. 16GB suits most people who multitask with lots of browser tabs and programs open. Some laptops have RAM soldered to the board, so it can't be added to — we'll check your model first.
Your files and programs
There are two main ways to handle an SSD upgrade, and we'll talk through which suits you:
- Move everything across — copy your existing system, programs and files to the new drive so it looks the same as before.
- Fresh install — start with a clean copy of Windows and copy your files back. This can clear out years of clutter, but programs need to be reinstalled.
Windows 11 compatibility
Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 in October 2025. Some older computers don't meet Windows 11 requirements, and an upgrade won't change that. We'll check compatibility before you spend money.
How it works
- Check — we look at what's inside and whether an upgrade will help.
- Quote — we explain the options and give you a price.
- Approve — nothing happens without your OK.
- Upgrade and test — then you collect it.
What to bring
- The computer and its charger or power cable
- Your password, or we can test with you present
- A list of programs you rely on, if a fresh install is an option
- Back up your important files first if you can
Will an upgrade actually help?
We'll check first. If your machine is healthy, an upgrade is usually the best value option. If it's already failing, we'll let you know — sometimes a repair or a refurbished laptop makes more sense.
When an upgrade isn't worth it
If the computer can't run Windows 11, already has an SSD and enough RAM, or needs several repairs too, an upgrade may not be good value. We'll tell you honestly.
