Most laptop problems are fixable, and a lot of them are simpler than they look. Whether your laptop has stopped charging, won't start, has a sticky keyboard or is just painfully slow, walk in to our workshop at 569 Grange Road and we'll take a look. We'll tell you what's wrong in plain English and what it will cost before we do anything.
Common problems, explained
Plugged in but not charging
Often a worn charger or cable, but it can also be the battery or the charging circuit inside the laptop.
Battery problems
Battery drains quickly, shuts down at 30%, or has started to swell. A swollen battery should be looked at straight away — stop using the laptop and bring it in.
DC jack or charging port
If the charger only works when you hold it at a certain angle, the port or its connection is usually loose or damaged.
Keyboard faults
Missing keys, keys that don't respond, or keys typing the wrong letters. We'll check whether it's the keyboard itself or something else.
Broken or stiff hinge
A cracked hinge or loose screen can get worse each time you open the lid and can damage the screen cable. Best to get it checked early.
Overheating and fan noise
A loud fan or a laptop that gets very hot is often caused by dust build-up or a worn fan. Cleaning it out can make a big difference.
Slow laptop
Slow to start, slow to open programs, constant spinning wheel. Sometimes it's software, sometimes an old hard drive — an SSD upgrade often fixes it.
Windows won't start
Stuck on the logo, endless repair loops or a blue screen. We'll work out whether it's a software problem or a failing drive.
Liquid spills
If you've spilled something on your laptop: switch it off, unplug the charger, and don't turn it back on to "check" it. Bring it in as soon as you can so we can take a look.

- Diagnose — we check the laptop and find the actual cause.
- Quote — we explain the problem and give you a clear price.
- Approve — nothing happens until you say yes.
- Repair — we fit the part or fix the fault.
- Test — we check everything is working properly before we call you.
- Collect — pick it up from the workshop.
What to bring
- Your charger or power adapter — it helps us tell a charger fault from a laptop fault.
- Your password or PIN if we need to log in to test it — or we can test it with you present.
- Any accessories involved in the problem, such as a mouse, dock or USB device.
- If the laptop still works, back up your important files first if you can.
Repair or replace?
For a lot of laptops, a repair is the cheapest and simplest option. But if your laptop is old, slow and needs an expensive part, putting that money towards a refurbished laptop can make more sense. We'll give you an honest view either way — it's your call. If the laptop won't start and you need your files, ask us about data recovery.

How much does a laptop repair cost?
It depends on the fault and the part your model needs. We check the laptop first and give you a clear quote before any work starts. If you decide not to go ahead, that's fine.
Do I need to book, or can I just walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome during business hours — no appointment needed. If you'd rather call first, ring us on (08) 8121 3311.
My laptop won't turn on at all. Is it worth bringing in?
Yes. A dead laptop can be anything from a faulty charger to a board fault. We'll find out what's going on and tell you honestly whether it's worth repairing.
Will I lose my files?
Most repairs don't touch your files, but it's always smart to back up first if you can. If the laptop won't start and you need your files, let us know — data recovery may be an option.
What if the repair isn't worth it?
We'll tell you. If the repair would cost more than the laptop is worth, we'll explain your options, such as moving your files onto a refurbished laptop.
