Cracked or shattered panel
Usually from a drop or something left on the keyboard when the lid was closed. The panel itself needs replacing.
Cracked, flickering, dim or completely black? Walk in to our Grange workshop and we'll work out what's really wrong before quoting.
A damaged screen is one of the most common reasons people bring a laptop in. The good news is that the rest of the laptop is often perfectly fine, so a new screen can bring it straight back into use. The important part is making sure the screen is actually the problem — that's where we start.

Coloured lines or dark blotches that spread are usually internal panel damage, even if the glass looks fine.
Flickering that changes when you move the lid often points to the display cable or hinge area rather than the screen.
If you can just make out the picture with a torch, the backlight isn't working. That can be the panel or a power issue to it.
The laptop seems to be on, but nothing shows. This could be the panel, the cable, or a graphics or board fault.
Touch stops working, works in patches, or registers touches you didn't make.
Before we order anything, we test to see which of these it is:
That way you only pay for the part that's actually needed.
Laptop screens vary a lot between models — size, resolution, connector and whether it's a touchscreen all matter. Touchscreens and full screen assemblies (where the glass, panel and frame come as one piece) usually cost more than a standard panel. We quote once the exact part for your model is identified, and nothing goes ahead until you approve. Part availability for your model affects how long it takes, and we'll keep you updated.
Lenovo, Dell, HP, ASUS, Acer, Toshiba, Microsoft Surface, Samsung and MSI, among others. See our brands we repair page. For MacBooks, see MacBook & iMac repairs.
If the laptop is otherwise healthy, replacing the screen is usually good value. If it's older, slow, and the screen is an expensive assembly, a refurbished laptop might be the better spend. Either way, if you need files off the old laptop, we can help with data recovery and transfer.
